I revel in the fact I am essentially inacessable through fanmail & ask box and I’m not changing this fact any time soon, but I know people have been asking for a list of lingerie stores or whatever so here it is. I’m not going to personalize recommendations or answer emails about it anymore though — it can be way time consuming and I get paid to shop for people so like, I’m not going to do my job for free. HOWEVER. These are where I usually find my duds anyway so it’s like I’m shopping for you regardless!
These are also stores I have personally purchased from myself or have convinced my friends to buy from.
ASOS - I am on ASOS like, every day out of boredom for one reason or another and it’s how I sometimes discover brands. In fact it’s how I discovered my favorite brand. They have an expansive range of lingerie from super cheap to pretty expensive and free shipping and sales all the time, and a lot of bra sizes, so why not. A+ good. $ - $$$
Playful Promises - The brand that really pulled me into lingerie, I should think… My Etti set was my true first investment. They are the nicest people ever, also, I’m serious. Their Boxing Day sale goes on through 1/14 and is quite fantastic. $ - $$
Journelle - My friend Treacle gave Journelle her coveted Lingerie Addict ‘Lingerie Store of the Year’ award with good reason. Journelle has so many fabulous brands and a wonderful staff too (Hilary is great and super stylish). Free shipping + complimentary gift wrap + quick and helpful consultation. Not inexpensive though, you get investment lingerie here. $$-$$$
Agent Provacateur - I mean, when I think ultimate femme lingerie I think of Agent Provacateur. One of my ladyfriends wears solely AP and she gets laid way more than me so she must be doing something right. Obviously this is way out of most people’s price range though, but they have a sale going on so maybe you can grab something. $$$
The Outnet - If you check constantly, you will likely find designer lingerie at really cheap prices, like a Dolce underwear set for $75. With diligence comes success. Things (obviously) sell out quite fast in popular sizes and they don’t restock so jump on things when you see them. $$-$$
I’m only listing stores I’ve personally purchased from (so I can’t recommend stores for plus size lingerie or lingerie in a specific price range, I’m only speaking from my experience). Treacle has a more expansive list and more lingerie knowledge than me so you should refer to her list before mine anyway. Hope that helps.
As a quick aside, I’m not sure what you mean when you say search results came up ‘empty.’ I also searched for ‘garter belt’ on the blog (I just to make sure the search bar was working) and the video result I’ve linked to above came up on page 2.
Hey Cora, I know you get tons of these questions a day so thanks for even reading this. I only really like to wear sports bars due to comfort and being between band sizes; I'm a solid 33D. Alas, sports bras are not always the sexiest so are there bras that have no underwire while still giving support at a price range of $50? A little sexy thrown in is a bonus. Thanks Cora!
If you’re looking for wireless fullbust bras, I’d search Figleaves, HerRoom, and Bare Necessities. They carry the biggest range of styles and sizes, and you’d be able to look at (and try) a lot of different options with little risk. Hope this helps!
Hello Cora! I was wondering if you knew any reliable places that sold corsets specifically designed for hourglass training. I have a super boyish figure and it seems my only options for changing that are corset training or plastic surgery. Price isn't important nor is style; I am simply interested in shopping around. Thanks so much!
If you want to waist train, I’d recommend getting a custom corset. Electra Designs makes some beautiful ones as does Starkers and Puimond.
Hey Cora! I recently had breast reduction surgery and after 10 years of wearing the ugliest bras known to man I want to get something cute. Do you know of any brands that specialize in super cute but super comfy? I'm still healing and bras that are very tight or have a high band are sort of out of the question, but I'm sick of this surgical bra I've been wearing for three weeks now.
Thanks for writing! Unfortunately, I think suggesting an appropriate bra for someone who’s just out of surgery is beyond my level of expertise. I’d recommend contacting Linda of Linda the Bra Lady to see what she recommends. Sorry I can’t be more help.
Hey Cora, I wanted to ask you a question on bra terminology. I recently saw an image of freya's piper longline bra and I really liked the look of the thicker band. I was wondering if there was a term I could use to search for other bras with thicker bands online. Thanks in advance!
I’m not quite sure what you mean by ‘thicker’ band. Are you talking about a wider and/or longer band that comes farther down the ribcage than traditional bra bands? If so, the name for that is ‘longline.’
so I've only worn a corset once (for a costume) and although I probably should've ordered a larger size, I liked the way it made me look. Do you have any suggestions for a newbie who wants to wear a corset for a special occasion underneath a dress or something? (preferably not too expensive either)
not exactly lingerie, and i have no idea about bra sizes n' such, but my girlfriend is a size E, but she wears dress wise a size 8 or 10. when swimwear shopping she struggles to find nice one piece suits that fit her, the vast majority "moosh" her boobs and make them "muffin top". Most bikini's are worse.... any idea on some places to look? the ones she finds most that fit her are just plain blue ones, nothing pretty/fancy about them. Cheers.(hope that all makes sense)
I’d look at companies that sell swimwear by the cup size instead of by the dress size as it sounds like your friend has a full bust but also fits into misses size clothing. Miss Mandalay has some beautiful swimsuits for full busted women and so do Freya and Fantasie. You could also try ASOS as they had some nice full bust bikinis this last season.
have you ever ordered lingerie from newlook's website? they have some cute pieces, but when I tried to place my order, it never went through. and then I was charged for an order that was never placed. what a letdown!
Never even heard of them. Sorry you had a bad experience though. :-(
