I posted this late last night, but I’m posting again since it’s the a.m.
I just found out that Ebony Magazine took one of my wedding photos, stripped the photographer credits, and posted it to their website.
The issue here isn’t that a publication like Ebony is sharing a photo of me. I post photos with the full expectation that they will be shared and distributed. That’s fine.
However it’s not okay, and, in fact, is completely inexcusable for a major publication with the reach, staff, and (presumably) ethics of Ebony to behave in this manner. No one would have lost anything if the photo had been credited. There is no harm in keeping the credits. A publication like Ebony should have staff on hand whose sole job it is to make sure photographs are appropriately sourced and credited.
At the very least, it’s lazy. I expect better, especially from a magazine that purports to be for African Americans.
